I only needed one appointment for the alterations when arriving Richard was was very good knew exactly what the dress needed and was very informative
I knew the dress was in good hands
On collection greeted by a lovely lady tried my dress on and it was absolutely perfect. Had so many compliments of the dress and how well it fits.

  I needed a last minute alteration to my wedding dress since a previous tailor ran out of time to refine the seam. I booked an alteration appointment with Exclusive Alterations on the Friday, took it in for a consultation on the Monday and by Tuesday it was fixed.   Richard takes perfectionism to a whole new level.  Whilst my daughter and I were delighted by his work on her wedding dress he frowned.  He insisted that a further tweak would improve the fit.  He was absolutely right.  "Nothing is too much trouble" is the sort of cliche you find in advertising but at Exclusive Alternations it is literally true.  They are patient, generous and just lovely to deal with.

One final point.  They don't just do wedding dresses.  At the time we were going through the dress process, I bought an expensive mac whose sleeves were too long.  He shortened them from the shoulder so that the alteration didn't leave a mark.  Anywhere.

  Wonderful service. Antonia was great. The venue is also relaxed and comfortable. Any decisions very much need to be made by the wearer but Antonia was really great at providing options of which directions we could go. Expert eye for detail, knowledgeable about different materials and cuts. The seamstresses were on hand as well which saved me coming in for a third fitting when I made a last minute decision and there happened to be an opening in time. A little luck involved there for me.   Before I start, I will say the alterations by itself was decent I have quite a simple dress and just needed it hemmed at the bottom to reduce length. However, the service itself was quite confusing and not very welcoming. When I first came I was told to sit in a room and sat there for about 10 minutes with no instruction on whether she was coming back and what was happening. I think she was steaming the dress but had no clue that was happening. Then she told me to put on my dress - I kind of expect an offer to help put a wedding dress on but I spent 10 minutes myself trying to put it on myself. On the 2nd appointment it was very similar, I was told to sit in the room and wait and then told to put it on - again with no assistance. I tried to call out as I needed help to pull up the dress and tie it and there was glass all around the location with people around so I couldn’t really just walk out and ask. The person helping me was no where in sight even when I called out. When she finally came she helped me. When I said I was happy saying “great, would you like to take it home” and I said yes. She then left. I just assumed as she left I should take of the dress (again by myself and struggling). She then came back to as I was out of it and said “oh we needed to take photos, can you put it back on again”.

If the price was cheaper I could understand that maybe the price is at the cost of service but the price was substantially high for what needed to be done. I had a single fabric dress with only front hemming required and it cost £216.

Overall, it was just a bit of a poor experience especially for something that should be a special moment really.

When should I book my first fitting?

Most brides come in 6–8 weeks before the wedding. Earlier is fine if your dress has already arrived, and we take rush work when the diary allows.

How many fittings will I need?

Two for most dresses, three if the work is extensive or we’re restyling. Menswear is usually one fitting and a collection.

What should I bring?

Your shoes and the underwear you’ll wear on the day. The hem can’t be set without them. Bring your veil too if it needs shortening.

Can you alter a dress I bought online?

Yes, and we do it often. Bring it in as early as you can so we can tell you honestly what’s achievable before you commit.

Can I wear my mother's wedding dress?

Usually yes restyling an older gown is one of the things we’re known for. Sleeves, backs, necklines and silhouettes can all be changed.

How much will it cost?

Bridal alterations start from £360 and are quoted in full at your first fitting. Nothing is started until you’ve agreed the price.
